GREEN LASER TECHNOLOGY TO COMBAT BIRD STRIKES AT AIRPORTS
As the volume of air traffic continues to increase and the aviation industry tries to catch up with a flight demand which soon should exceed airport capacity, so does the serious threat caused by bird strikes at airports.
LORD’s unique green laser technology helps airports solve the problem. The green laser light and a sharp, large diameter collimated beam virtually sweeps birds off the runway over a distance of up to 10,000 feet (3,000m).
By constantly scanning the runway, the TOM500 stationary system creates a permanent threat for birds, which hence permanently leave the area. Up to 94% reduction in bird activity is recorded at airports while TOM500 is in operation.
