GREEN LASER TECHNOLOGY TO COMBAT BIRD STRIKES AT AIRPORTS

TOM500 in operation As the volume of air traffic continues to increase and the aviation industry tries to catch up with a flight demand which soon should exceed airport capacity, so does the serious threat caused by bird strikes at airports.

LORD’s unique green laser technology helps airports solve the problem. The green laser light and a sharp, large diameter collimated beam virtually sweeps birds off the runway over a distance of up to 10,000 feet (3,000m).

By constantly scanning the runway, the TOM500 stationary system creates a permanent threat for birds, which hence permanently leave the area. Up to 94% reduction in bird activity is recorded at airports while TOM500 is in operation.

The long-awaited, state-of-the-art solution to bird control at airports.

Behind the product are nearly ten years of ornithological research conducted by the French Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC), in coordination with the International Bird Strike Committee (IBSC). This impressively effective, visual technique is the first and only technology that has been developed by ornithologists of aviation authorities for the aviation commmunity.

This also is a quiet, green technology that harms neither birds nor environment.

The Technology Innovation of the Year

LORD Ingenierie has received the Frost & Sullivan 2009 Global Commercial Aviation Service Technology Innovation of the Year Award for its development of the TOM500, "a breakthrough in bird deterrent systems for airports".
