TAKING A STICK TO BIRD DANGER

COLOR VISION OF BIRDS
Specialized ornithologists of the Frend Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) and the International Bird Strike Committee (IBSC) have demonstrated that birds are highly visual animals - they mostly react at the SIGHT of danger - and are primarily sensitive to the color GREEN .
LORD’s TOM500 Bird Deterrent laser system is a decisive outcome of these findings, a device which creates a visual (light), permanent (robotized) and highly perceptible (green) danger to birds.
THE STICK-LIKE EFFECT
TOM500 uses a green laser and scans the runway and surrounding areas at regular intervals on pre-programmed paths, close to the ground. The laser light is expanded and collimated so that the beam shows a large and constant diameter over the whole range.
Birds perceive the bright green beam as a long and big stick coming their way and the only alternative they have to avoid the blow is to fly away. This is a survival reflex, the same reflex as a bird flying away as a car approaches.
