EFFECTIVE IN THOSE SITUATIONS WHERE THE RISK IS GREATEST
TOM500 is effective when the green laser looks so brighter than ambient daylight that birds can see it. This clearly keeps the laser technology from working in full sunlight.

However, long run testing demonstrated that even in sunny places like the French Riviera the system does continue to work for nearly 10 hours a day in the summer season.
TOM500 operates in light conditions of up to 15,000 lux. This typically corresponds to broken (5/8) sky condition. For example, the right hand picture shows common daylight conditions of around 10,000 lux.
The TOM500 laser system of course is outstandingly effective in those hazy mornings and lower light / lower visibility situations where patrolling the airfield to check for birds is an uncertain task and, moreover, the risk is greatest for pilots.
Worldwide statistics over the past 6 years say that 65% of bird strikes at airports occur at dawn or dusk. These are one of those light conditions where TOM500 is at its best.
